the weekend deal
my apologies for the lack of real writing last week, I had a bit of a rough week and didn’t quite have the head space for semi-intellectual rants. anyway, part of the week’s and, to be honest, past five years, rough times resulted in me finally realizing that i need to step back a little in order to re-gain some sort of inner balance and focus. a starting point was that i finally promised myself that as of last weekend that I will not work, nor even switch on my computer from friday night till monday morning. sounds simple enough but when you have ignored that simple piece of wisdom for the past five years, well you feel like the opening scene in ferris bueller. in a way it is an intellectual ( not that my line of work is THAT intellectually challenging but you know ) detox, for good and not just for a week, and since I do not believe in the physical detox craze-sorry but smoking and drinking are my only vices left and I am not going to give those up, ever,-and you know what, it’s really good. this morning was the first monday in at least five years where I wasn’t dead tired, angry and agitated. think what you might, but the world continues to turn, with or without you and i am quite happy to unplug once a week.
i went up to the baltic over the weekend to get some sea breeze and sand in me and to get out of the city for a bit. it’s a thing with berlin, it’s a great place to come back to and unpack but fuck me if it doesn’t get on my tits after a few weeks. luckily the next trips are already planned. and, just as a tip, the baltic sucks, at least the german part of it.
also, it wasn heidi’s birthday last night, her and her friend erica, who had just arrived from new york cooked up some killer pasta and luckily i managed to get out of there before the drinking games and dice came out, otherwise i think i wouldn’t be sitting here.
