[ Magazines ]

I used to subscribe to L’OUMO Vogue, until after a couple of years I realised I had

a big pile of magazine, although they double as a  great makeshiftchair i don’t collect

anything so I curbed that. What drew me to the magazine originally was the art direction

and quality of photographic essays by Bruce Webber, Michel Compte and Steven Klein amoung others and I guess the term that has been coined here on the lodges as The Male Mystique.

While in Paris this weekend I picked up the latest issue for the Eurostar back as it had

a great feature Icons Directory 40th anniversary. And it really is an excellent reminder of the people who have helped to shape the way we see and feel in the latter part of last century to now.

heres a couple of English contenders…

a nice reminder of how style, attitude, output and personality

are so innevitably and myseriously entwined in creatives.

Another magazine I got recently was  Man About Town ,

a biannial journal for men.

lu4.jpg

again beautiful art direction and very diverse articles aboutall the

great stuff that makes the world go round including an piece about

the intricate relationships between male designers and their muses.

And how the nuances, subtleties or effertless style gesture can inspire

entire collections or looks.

My favourite example was Bob Dylan for Yohji Yamamoto.

lu6.jpg

in which he describes his silhouette, words and genious

as inspiration. Which got me thinking (no not like cary bradshaw)

do we all have our own secret or obvious muse’s that we subconciously

base our modes of dressing on?

Paul Smith says it is Daniel Day Lewis, and it is no suprise that actors

and musicians feature strongly in the list of inspiration.

If anyone knows who ther muse is, please comment we could

profile our own top ten list.
