Paris: Parte Une

Like Mr. Vogel, I am also in Paris, but not at the Capsule show.

I’m here for the Magnum Photos AGM, specifically to make a presentation tomorrow about two new group books. I can’t tell you any more right now, but needless to say, it’s a big gig. Me, some layouts and c. 45 of the greatest living photographers.

It’s not all hard work and no play though. Last night was the big Magnum Party. After the photographers have spent a gruelling day long session deciding who becomes a member (or which nominees haven’t made the grade), they let their hair down. Live music, champagne and wine, good food (this is Paris, after all), the sight of the Magnum members having fun (Martin Parr on the dancefloor, newly-made full member Jonas Bendiksen pouring a whole magnum of champagne over his head to celebrate) and the chance to talk to some of the photographers I’ve not met before. Fantastic stuff. Tonight is a wide open space. There’s a René Burri private view, or I might just text Mr. Vogel and see what he’s up to.
