Sneaker Game Tight

“I’m gonna send you something, but you gotta wear them,” was how the phone call went that started my Illest Sneaker Hook-Up Week Ever™. I said “Sure.” My friend Terrence (now at Nike) was testing me, I figure, because I got the box and little had I realized I was agreeing to wear a pair of McFly Hyperdunks, sort of a bizarre, twisted vision of the original one-man cause that acquaintance and fellow sneakerhead Al Cabino has been petitioning for years, (and yes, there I am mentioned how I signed the petition way back then). I really think Al was a big part of Nike making these things, which they still haven’t really - these are just a colorway of the new Hyperdunk, alluding to the infamous ‘Back to the Future II’ self-fitting shoes that Marty McFly wears/wore in 2015. Still waiting for the real ones. Maybe something could happen at www.mcfly2015.com.
Next day, a box arrives from Kaws with his Air Force 1 model. Sick! Thanks for the hook-up, Brian - these have been a long time in the making and it’s gotta be good to have them out. Nice unique touches on a blindingly common shoe like the AF1 - the cross-stitched ‘X’s that echo Kaws’ signature ‘death’ eyes, with one pair of neon-lime ‘X’s on the left shoe, not the other… 3XDope.
OK, enough about sneaker hook-ups. Herr Vogul asked us early-on to avoid making these blogs a product parade, but I only went there because it was like a Double-Level 5 Sneaker Threat.

NYC in the summer. Consistent all-day heat. It’s what the city is about. You put on one outfit and you’re good, from noon on Houston Street…

…to midnight on Houston Street:
“The Bench” was still poppin’ at 12am when I walked by - Here you see Max, Marcella with Sir Ruffy, Ari On-The Go, Ricky (or is that Dee? Dang, I’m playing myself here!), and Phillip ‘Howie’ Leeds. Matt Goias is scheming something money-makingly clever in the back left.

Yeah, jeez, I’m not sure what’s going on here. But I know Phillip runs it. Shut ‘em down, shut ‘em shut ‘em down.
One last thing - Yeah Terrence, I rocked ‘em. Thanks for lacing me!

I think this devalued them about 25 cents a step.
