tune of the week vol.3?

So I watched the film “superbad” yesterday. Mrs. V hated it, but I loved it, which is quite normal. Ok, I am not adverse to serious drama blah blah films at all, however, every now and then I need a comedy such as “Superbad” when I want to kick back, drink a few beers and switch my brain off. Regardless of the obvious mental immaturity of this film I’ll be honest with you, I laughed my ass off and thoroughly enjoyed. However, towards the end of the film I got a little nostalgic, maybe even a little sad and as I was sitting on my balcony at the end of the film, drinking my last beer and having my last smoke before heading of to Never Never Land I couldn’t stop thinking about adolescence, parties, being a teenager, High School and music of course.

In a way I think every generation needs a film like “Superbad”. American Pie didn’t cut the cake, it was too clean. For me, in Highschool it was “Dazed  & Confused”. I still rate that film as the best and most certainly watched film in High School. The themes of frustration, love of music and getting loose, not knowing of what to do with your life and sticking a big finger to the Man all rang true in HS. I think my buddies and I probably watched that film every weekend for over a year whilst getting baked and fucking around, getting amped for the weekend. In retrospect, being a teenager is awesome and awful at the same time. It’s the all time high of having nearly zero responsibility and yet being a teenager, not getting the booze or the girl, dealing with parents etc etc. Don’t get me wrong I like being of adult age, which doesn’t imply I am an adult yet-I’ll get to that in a second-I like the fact that I can actually drink and go out at any time, don’t need my fake ID anymore and so on. Sometimes I dislike the responsibility of being of adult age, you know, paying the bills, being a rat in the rat race, paying taxes and what not, but that’s just part of the trade off I guess. I no longer need a fake ID and I can party whenever I want to and not worry about the fucking SAT scores, yet I have to be responsible enough to pay taxes.

Back to “Superbad”, I really liked the film because it reminded me off “Dazed & Confused”. It’s all about teenage angst, sex drugs & rock n’roll. Realistically, that’s what teenage life is all about, and that’s good also, because being an adult isn’t like that anymore, or is it? I have a feeling that our generation is actually “tuning in and dropping out” more so than any other before them. Whenever I go out in Berlin I don’t really see kids out, you know, like 14-18 year olds, but people my age. Most of them are out every day of the week till dawn. Maybe Berlin is the Never Never Land of the pre to post 30 year olds, I am not sure, it’s kinda crazy if you ask me.

Anyway, and considering that I guess to a certain degree I am sometimes part of this tuned in and dropped out generation ( only sometimes I admit ) and that we are all about to embark on a weekend of sunshine, beach, carelessness and drunken juvenile behaviour at an age my parents already had two children aged 9 and 7, I thought of “Dazed & Confused” again, sparked on by “Superbad”. Granted, the soundtrack to “superbad” was super bad, apart from the last song and it seriously lacked genius scence’s like the one I am about to show you.

Like I said, 6 of us are about to embark on a long weekend at the beach and hence I wanted to give you, possibly, the most juvenile and best party track in rock n’roll. It’s a bold statement I know and I will probably change my mind after posting this but as far as I am concerned, this will be the track of the weekend. I know it. I am entirely sure what the rant above was all about, however, I think it’s interesting to look at our lifestyle’s sometimes, question youth & responsibility, adulthood or the complete lack thereof, relate that to music and having fun and add to the mix that most of us work in an industry mostly catering to teenagers. Or maybe it’s just me being nostalgic, who fucking cares, here’s some fun rock n’roll for. I’ll be having a few beers on y’all, I hope you do the same.

D&C great! But please superbad…well may be as you said, we watched Dazed when we were the target audience for movies like that.
Although Mr. V, I like to call you McLovin after superbad..hehehe

And for the record, matthew mcconaughey should have stopped making movies after that one.

    Matthew McConaughy makes movies?

D&C is amazing. Superbad, sad to say, I felt too old for… or perhaps, just thought it wasn’t dirty enough. Watching it made me realize I am becoming way to strict in the comedy I laugh at. My favorite recent teen/HS movie is Detroit Rock City.

    O. Two — I thought the same re: Mr. McConaughy.
