WORDS.BEATS.LIFE
Sometimes self promotion can’t be avoided.
Volume 3 Issue 2 is out very soon.
We’ve put our heart and soul into this one. The idea for the theme sprang up 18 months ago, and it really has been a journey to get it completed. We do it with no advertising, a super small staff and with the aim of promoting more nuanced study of hip-hop culture.
I wrote two pieces, including a short sketch of mixtape history (which I also presented at March’s Popular Culture Association Conference in SF). We’ve got great work from Dr. Jared Ball and Jason Nichols, who both contribute greatly to our editorial mission. Jason, in fact, is editor in chief. Cory Stowers profile of DJ OSO FRESH is seriously dope.
Jason’s dedication, along with Cory’s drive and vision, really made this happen. I am simply, and happily, along for the great ride. This is the first issue I’ve been able to work on fully, and am super pleased with what we’ve. It is a great pleasure to work at WBL and with all the staff, and such a great pleasure to announce we are just that much closer to being able to share our passions with you all.
All proceeds go back to our youth programing. Web sales will begin shortly at wblinc.org.
