Minneappleseed
I’ve spent most of my life in New York City (Bronx, Brooklyn & Queens to be exact) and had a brief stint in LA. But Minneapolis, is where I spent my most formidable and (high school), and thus I consider the land of 10,000 lakes rather influential on my life.
Musically, Minneapolis benefited from being landlocked in the Midwest because, like Chicago, it pulls the best from both the East and West coast with just enough room for some jams from the South.
At the time that I was heavily into NYHC like Sick of it All and Snapcase and venerable rap acts like The GZA and Mobb Deep via NY, I was also really into West Coast main stays like the Alkaholiks and Hierogylphics.
And of course hometown heroes, Rhyme Sayers Entertainment.
Having watched these guys take their love of hip-hop and parlay it into true DIY success with an established record store, extensive touring and consistently sold out shows, it just solidifies that locally supported music has a chance of surviving.
This postcard was sent to out to promote “Se7en’s Travels” in 2003. Hard to believe it’s been five years since Slug had his first video on MTV.
This one’s from 2001.
I picked this album up for $2.10 at Cheap-O on Lake Street in 1oth grade.
Extreme Noise on Nicolett was the best place to buy=y hardcore, punk, metal, etc on vinyl.
This was a great buy and superb follow up to their debut album. Youtube has everything.
*For you Hypebeasters, 10″ records are like LE Nike SB Mids.
