After a hectic week, struggling with the fact that my profession relies heavily on computers (highly unreliable product), i needed some time away from the desk.

My good friend Jon called about driving down to Washington for a couple days in the Pacific Northwest waters.  “I’m in!”

We started our 4 and a half hour (6hr for most) journey down the coast with Jon picking me up at 0500 hours….on the dot.  The anticipation of getting in the water and watching the sun come up from the left (east), Jon got us to our destination way ahead of schedule.

We met up with some fellow Canadian wave riders there.  Amongst them, Stunt Man Byron pictured here leading the way up the path to the beach.  BTW this little 50 yard stretch of tall grass is one of my favorite spots in Washington.  

The report promised calm winds and 16 second waves…….didn’t look like it when we got there.  But we made the drive, we’re going in!

Back to the car to gear up.  Here in the Pacific Northwest, you gotta gear up for real.  A thick wetsuit, hoodie, booties are mandatory.  

Well the morning session was alright.  The afternoon session was better.  The winds died down and the waves started to come in with a little more room in between.  Day 2 morning session was even better.  Glassiest waves i’ve seen at this spot but my arms were gassed.  

In between sessions, a couple gold can throat charmers are mandatory as well. “The Champagne of Beer”. 

Here’s Jonny taking a fiver after a couple cold ones.  Rest up and recharge for the next session.  

Pack it up and hit the road back north.  Fun little trip and a great get away.  Didn’t think about work until i decided to check my messages half way home!
