“Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what’s puzzling you
Is the nature of my game”
I would wager that that this whole thing here and my person needs an introduction to most of you readers. To the rest of you cats who have been along this 13 year long journey, welcome back. Black Lodges started as my own personal blog back in 2005 after I left Hypebeast. It morphed into a multiple blogger portal for a lot of people that were creatively active in music, the arts, streetwear and all the shit in between that most importantly, even back then felt hugely disenfranchised by the collective. Nothing new there and most of you know me well enough now to know what I mean. I shut the whole thing down back in 2009 when my son was born. Again, nothing new there. Since then I believe I have tried to get this thing back up twice, both times failed because of me. I wasn’t disciplined enough and truth be told my personal life was in tatters. The latter has been true for the past 5-6 years. Luckily for me, it’s back on track and with that here’s a public thank you to all of those that helped, you know who you are.
There is, however, a new parameter that has had a very positive effect on my life lately, that inadvertedly has moved me to start writing publicly again. I recently received a scholarship to write a PhD in Political Philosophy. Some of you picked up on the slack of pace in regards to my illustrations, lack of a social life and what have you.
There you have it, I spend a great deal of time working on this paper, this idea of mine that if all goes well will be done in 3-4 years. What that has however taught me, again, is discipline in writing. More so, I have re-discovered the joy in writing. A few of you have asked to read the work so far, and I hope that you will understand that I cannot show the work before it is finished. However, the actual work itself is so all-encompassing in regards to its nature that it has moved me to re-think and think more intently about the world I and we all live in.
Now that I have both the discipline and joy back in my life, Black Lodges will be the home for all of those thoughts. I started as a writer in this world and in a weird sport of way I will always be one. I have no idea where this will take me, or you for that matter, but I am excited to be writing again. There is a lot to be done, and what better day to start than today. Welcome back. I’ve missed this and you.
